Get Your questions Answered
What is the problem?
The issue is oil fouling. In HVAC and refrigeration systems, small amounts of oil can leak past the piston or crankshaft and stick to the inner walls of refrigerant tubes. Over time, this buildup reduces heat transfer and capacity, forcing your equipment to run harder and longer—sometimes up to 35% more—to achieve the same cooling. This extra strain drives up maintenance costs while shortening the lifespan of the equipment.
Where is this oil fouling problem documented?
Oil fouling has been studied internationally for over 30 years. See this folder with ASHRAE and 7 equipment manufacturers discussing the oil fouling problem.
Research from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) in their study titled Effects of Oil on Boiling of Replacement Refrigerants Flowing Normal to a Tube Bundle highlights this issue, stating:
“Even at 1 percent (by weight) oil [in the refrigerant], the heat transfer coefficient is reduced by 25% from its no-oil baseline. At higher oil content, a 30% reduction has been typically measured.”
What is the technology solution?
The solution is CryoGenX4. This advanced technology, developed over 20 years, is the fourth patented evolution of a liquid surface science nanotechnology. CryoGenX4 uses tiny, electromagnetically charged particles to penetrate fouled oil and embed in all interior metal surfaces—similar to how Teflon prevents food from sticking to a frying pan.
CryoGenX4 emulsifies and removes oil from heat exchange surfaces, activating the surface to enhance heat transfer and preventing oil adhering to the coils again. This one-time treatment improves efficiency, boosts capacity, and generates savings year after year throughout the equipment's lifespan. It’s applied without any disruption to business operations, and typical paybacks range from 6 months to 3 years, yielding a 400%-1200% return on investment.
CryoGenX4 is effective for any HVAC or refrigeration system, regardless of age. For older units, it recovers lost efficiency and capacity, while for newer systems, it prevents degradation from the start, extending the equipment’s life by up to 20% and maximizing long-term savings.
Has anyone else studied nanotechnologies saving money in refrigeration, freezer and HVAC systems?
Yes, all over the world. Here's a link to 160 International University and research institute studies showing savings in HVAC, refrigeration and freezer systems with nanotechnology and nanofluids
Does this problem contribute to my company's carbon footprint?
Absolutely. Oil fouling forces your equipment to work harder and run more frequently than necessary, directly contributing to Scope 2 emissions by consuming 15-20% more electricity (kWh) than needed. For most industries, this adds up to 8-20% of your overall electricity bill. A one-time CryoGenX4 treatment can permanently reduce this excess energy use, cutting both costs and your company’s carbon footprint.
What global brands have approved deploying this technology in any equipment?
Is this technology safe for my equipment?
All products are made in the USA using chemicals that occur abundantly in our environment and that are naturally safe for humans.
The manufacturer has been in business for more than 20 years. Over that time, these products have been tested safe and effective by top laboratories like Texas Oil Tech, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Department of Energy (DOE) / Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), National Safety Foundation (NSF), Electrolux Labs, and Energy Australia. Should a spill occur, clean-up procedures are the same as refrigerant oil as outlined in the TST Material Safety Data Sheet.
Manufactured to the Highest Standards -- All products meet or surpass HVAC/R compatibility standards with all prevalent refrigerants and refrigerant lubricants on the market as of 1 January 2021. All products are manufactured under current International Organization for Standards (ISO) guidelines for repeatable quality. Following these stringent standards protects against defects or causing any type of adverse reactions within HVAC/R systems.
Will this void my equipment warranty?
CryoGenX4 will not void existing Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) warranties
Certified and tested by Texas Oil Technical Laboratories, this family of products meets or exceeds the viscosity and all compatibility specifications required by the OEM’s. A very small amount of CryoGenX4 is required to be installed in each system to produce significant thermal energy transfer improvements. The technology does not change the characteristics of floc point, flash point, viscosity index, pour point or any other characteristics of the existing system mineral or synthetic equipment refrigeration oil. It does however greatly enhance the lubricity.
Additionally, CryoGenX4 does not alter, associate or blend with any types of refrigerants. It simply requires the refrigerant within all HVAC/R systems to be utilized as a temporary transport mechanism (just like the oil) to allow complete distribution of the technology throughout the mechanical and heat exchange surfaces.
The TST products are neither oils nor refrigerant additives. Instead, they are a permanent thermal enhancement treatment for metal surfaces. This is detailed in the aforementioned Texas Oil Technical Laboratory test report defining the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) classifications; ASTM D3233, ASTM D1500, ASTM D93, ASTM D445, and ASTM D97 for compatibility with refrigerants and lubricants. Performance improvements are also backed up by independent Department of Energy and Underwriters Laboratory (UL) testing.
No HVAC/R original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the USA has tested any of the TST products, nor has any expressed any future interest in doing so. The Manufacturers have a better financial interest in selling new machines, not restoring your old ones. Because OEM’s have not participated with us on any testing of the TST products, by law they cannot claim that simply using them will void any remaining OEM warranties.
Is this product and its installation insured?
Yes. In the unlikely event any damage would ever result from the use of properly installed TST products, TST maintains $1M in liability protection per location to repair or replace the affected equipment. In more than 20 years on the market and 160,000+ installations in 100 countries on six continents worldwide, there have been zero claims. This industry-leading protection remains in effect for the remaining useful life of the equipment. As part of this same equipment protection policy, TST will also cover any potential loss of revenue or products for up to $2M that results from an HVAC or refrigeration outage directly attributable to any TST products. Higher protection amounts up to $7M are available for larger deployments.
THE LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY SET FORTH IN THIS AGREEMENT SHALL NOT APPLY TO DAMAGES, (i) RESULTING FROM THE GROSS NEGLIGENCE, OR THE WILLFUL OR INTENTIONAL MISCONDUCT OF A PARTY OR ITS PERSONNEL, (ii) STEMMING FROM PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE CAUSED BY A PARTY OR ITS PERSONNEL.

What do manufacturers have to say about CryoGenX4?
Energy Efficient Technologies or the manufacturer have not yet been asked to conduct detailed testing for Trane, York, Thermo King, Carrier or any other USA HVAC equipment manufacturer and really don't expect to be.
The reason is the manufacturers have nothing financially to gain by doing so. They make more revenue and profit from replacing/ repairing old equipment and therefore aren’t interested in promoting a product that would reinstate lost efficiency and extend equipment life. CryoGenX4 brings back lost efficiency and extends the life of the units which ultimately reduces the money spent with these manufacturers.
Due to the fact that none of these manufacturers have tested the CryoGenX4 technology, they cannot legally claim that it will void any warranties – especially when it meets or exceeds the same industry standards as anything they currently recommend and that it doesn’t change any of the characteristics of the oil or freon.
What is my HVAC/R technician going to say about this product?
Unless your technician is a chemist, materials engineer, or R&D engineer, they are not qualified to provide an accurate assessment of this technology. The safest answer, lowest risk, and therefore best perceived way of them keeping their job is to tell you they would not recommend any of these new technologies. Since they don’t know or understand how it works or how safe it is, they think something may go wrong and they don’t want to be perceived as the one who recommended it and be fired.
What can I expect after RTU/DX equipment deployment?
These products are nano-compounds that will, in the course of their performance, release particulates and efficiency-robbing oil that has deposited within the refrigeration circuit over time. This happens quickly, and >99% of time, without any issues. In less than 1% of cases, however, an unusually large amount of these particulates may have developed as a result of a prior catastrophic failure (i.e. compressor burnout; soldering in a new section of coil, etc.) and were not properly removed prior to returning the system into service.
After CryoGenX4 is introduced, these heavy contaminants will, in nearly all cases, become active within the refrigerant flow and settle within the molecular sieve of a standard refrigerant filter drier, potentially metering or plugging the filter drier, especially a very small filter drier. This is normally indicated by having greater than 1.5 Degrees F difference across the filter dryer while running.
In this type of situation, the HVAC system will deliver poor performance or even shut down until the clogged filter drier is replaced. This filter replacement normally takes less than 30 minutes. As long as the machine has had a chance to run for 48 hours leading up to the filter change, CryoGenX4 does not need to be replaced or reinstalled. It is already embedded into the inner lining of the tubes.
Given the amount of debris or contaminants required to clog a filter drier, changing the oil in the system is also recommended should a filter drier replacement be deemed necessary. This will ensure the integrity of the oil is maintained within the system for the foreseeable future.
What to expect after chiller equipment deployment?
These products are nano-compounds that will, in the course of their performance, release the particulates and efficiency-robbing oil that has deposited within the refrigeration circuit over time. This happens quickly and >99% of time without any issues. In less than 1% of cases, however, an unusually large amount of these particulates and/or oil fouling may have developed over time.
After the product is introduced, these heavy contaminants and/or oil amounts will, in nearly all cases, become active within the refrigerant flow and be carried back to and deposited in the oil sump. In rare cases, an extremely large volume of returning oil may overload the sump. To prevent this from occurring, the oil site glass should be checked periodically during the first two weeks following installation. This is the time when CryoGenX4 is doing the heavy lifting treating the metal surfaces. If the site glass starts to go out of the normal operating range, extra oil should be drained off until the level in the site glass returns to normal.
