Dollar Bank Data Center

Energy Efficient Technologies(EET) installed approximately 95 sensors as part of an ASHRAE Level III audit to identify how to save energy and reduce costs in Dollar Bank data center while improving reliability and survivability.  EET identified 12 energy conservations measures to deploy including the earlier version of CryoGenX4 in HVAC CRAC units.

Figure x demonstrates the temperature performance of a server rack located directly in front of the CRAC unit. Data centers with raised floor conditions typically see the following:

  • Plenum supply air temperature = 55˚ to 66˚ F
  • Air temperature increases to approximately 78˚ F towards the top of the rack
  • Typical Delta T = approximately 20˚ F
  • Hot aisle temperatures = approximately 100˚ F

The measured server rack presents lower temperatures than a typical raised floor configuration.   Based on this information, air flow management is a very important aspect of the recommendations for Dollar Bank. This demonstrates the worst case scenario of heat exhausted from a server rack being 88 ˚ F.
