A major food distributor in the McDonald’s system owns three main hub centers across the country, each of which was included in a three year-long study of CryoGenX4. The goal of this project was to reduce carbon footprint, help the different equipment in each location run better while increasing the efficiency and company profits.
In 2023, results were re-evaluated at the machines and on the electric bill. After three years, consistent savings were found, resulting in a 15% overall electricity bill reduction with CryoGenX4 across the portfolio.
In 2020, CryoGenX4 was deployed in all machines across three states and 1.4 Million square feet of refrigerated and frozen cold chain distribution. There was no additional maintenance required and no downtime of equipment in the past four years.
CryoGenX4 reduces the cost to operate equipment, regardless of age.
Given the substantial results achieved during this year-long study, this Major Food Distributor realized a long-term ROI of greater than 1500% on all the HVAC/R equipment treated with the CryoGenX4 ECM. This included extensive ammonia systems and rooftops.
These results were verified at the machines, on the meter, and in the electric bill reductions across three states over three years. This project will reduce >27,000 metric tons of CO2 which is equivalent to reducing 66.5 Million miles driven by automobiles.
The measurements used to compare performance improvements following the introduction of the ECM into
the Ammonia Chiller Plants were taken directly from the compressor operating consoles. Besides ensuring
similar weather conditions (as stated above), care was also taken to get screenshots where the
operating parameters and set points were similar in both the baseline and post periods.
The images below show two of the many baseline and post screenshots. The yellow digital psychrometers inserted at the bottom
of each image are showing what the outside conditions were seconds after the screenshots were captured. In each
baseline and post measurement instance, a similar number of evaporators were running and/or had
been satisfied. Also, no evaporators were operating in defrost mode when screenshots were taken.
